With the holidays quickly approaching I want to showcase a gift idea that can be ordered from my site.

These are my antique gold key chains offer. I took some photos of a clients to show how nice they are. They are large and made of solid metal. Unlike plastic photo key chains, these are more like jewelry and meant to last through a lot of daily wear and tear.

By simply running a piece of ribbon through the top, they make lovely ornaments.

I recently added many more photo gift products such as puzzles, coffee mugs, postage stamps and gift certificates. Keep me in mind as you do your holiday shopping. Everyone loves pictures!

Thanks!
Kelly

The farm was a perfect setting for my session with this beautiful little girl. She was on a serious mission to explore every corner. I thought we would never get her out of the cornfield! I had to stay on my toes just to keep up with her and catch her looking up. It was more than worth it, I was quite charmed by her independent spirit and her brilliant blue eyes.

I really enjoy the ones with her thoughtful glaze but I also caught some with her lighter side. She saved her biggest smiles for the animals. Greeting each of God’s Creatures great and small with delight, from toads to horses!

It is always wonderful when a session’s location matches a subject’s personality so well. It’s part of the beauty and fun of natural light photography.

Since I love taking pictures of kids and I love taking pictures of horses, I really love it when I get my two favorite subjects to together. Warning-these are painfully cute!

These are a great example of what to expect during what I call a "Farm Call" Equine Photography Session. I like to get a good mix of classic confirmation poses, and poses with unique angles and lighting. Doesn't he look fun to ride???

I can’t have one of every type of horse I’d like to own, I barely have time to take care of the two I have. So one of the reasons I love photographing horses so much is because it’s my way of collecting horses. While I certainly can't fill a barn, I’m filing my website with as many breeds and disciplines as I can. It feels very much the same as the way my sister and I used to add toy Breyer models to our shelves in our bedroom growing up.

It’s a wide and wonderful world when it comes to horses and when I’m holding my camera I enjoy the challenge of the getting those little breed/discipline details right. It’s what separates great from good in the horse world.

That is why I was so excited last month to have the opportunity to photograph some very different horses within one week.

On Wednesday I met Frankie, a 19 hand+ Belgian Gelding. Wow what a star! He completely charmed me. More than just a gentle giant, Frankie has a playful personally and I was impressed with his grace and movement under saddle. I did something I have never done before; I handed my camera to my client and asked to be photographed with him!

Three days later I was privileged to photograph the Indiana Miniature Equine Club's Futurity show in Greenfield. http://indianaminiatureequinecl.homestead.com/index.html Talk about a 360! Not only did the minis look extra tiny compared to Frankie, but because it was a futurity there were plenty of babies! They were super cute! I once again asked a client to photograph me with her horse. One of the tiniest guys there named Louki. He stole my heart too. He is named after the Norse god of mischief and he looks like a very little version of my mare Callie.

Check out this fun group of little guys! Back in August I had the pleasure of photographing my friends, the very sweet and wonderful H. Family with their 18mos triplet boys. Just the kind of challenge I love. And believe me those little boys were on the move! My favorite picture is this family shot. I love the look between Mom and Dad as the boys start to dart off. It says so much about the patience and fun they have with their kids.

I have a fantastic memories of competing in 4-H so it was amazing to come back to photograph the Marion Co Fair Horse & Pony show this year. I loved every minute! I know it sounds silly but I really love the smell of the fair! Sawdust, mud, horses mixed with fair food wafting through the air. Oh how that smell brings it all back!

So much was still the same. Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles are still sweating in the stands having no clue why their equestrian is winning or losing her class yet cheering their hearts out regardless. High School boyfriends are still wiping down their girlfriend's boots. Most parents still looked nervous tired and ragged. The kids were still going through it all, pride, fear, joy, nervousness, excitement and exhaustion- everything that the competition is that makes it so wonderful and challenging.

Coming back as an adult has made me appreciate my mom more. What a gift to have been involved in this sort of program. I see now how it has shaped my adult work ethic and character.

It was also eye opening to be behind the scenes to see all that the 4-H leaders are doing to run the show. I must admit at 18 I didn’t think much about them as I was competing in my classes or wondering where my boyfriend (now my husband) was to wipe down my boots! Running a show is hard work!

I saw some familiar faces both human and horse! Kids I helped out when I was a teenager had grown up and where teaching the next generation. Warm and fuzzies were plenty! I definitely said "When I was in 4-H......." too many times and my heart was out there with every kid through all their frustrations and victories.

I took way too many photos, but kids and horses are my favorite subject, so can you blame me for going a little overboard?

Here are a few of the images I took that week if you would like to see more of these fantastic young horseman and women, there is an open gallery on my proofing page www.artimages.zenfolio.com

Hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I enjoyed taking them
